PancakeBot consists of a clench bottle you fill with batter, and a framework that moves and squeezes it according to specifics you load via an SD card. The software allows you to load in any image and convert it into the threshold drawings appropriate for the flapjack ouevre. Once you have the drawing you want, you load the SD card into Pancake bot and it draws the design onto the griddle. It has a mode that lets you add unconventional food colorings to different bottles so you can “print” your pancake image in color. If you back PancakeBot at the $59 level (a little less than half the cost of pre-ordering the colophon), they will make a pancake portrait of your face and email you the image. As of March 15, PancakeBot has already raised $193,000-plus of their $50,000 goal and still has all but a month left in their funding phase. If they reach $250,000 they will add “additional color options” to the base model.

I had bought some peach nectar to use in half-bred drinks for the holidays this year, had a few cans left over, and set out to use it up today. Used a little bit this morning (replaced half of the dairy in french toast with it, and served the resulting french favourite with sliced cling peaches–kids loved it) but had bigger things in mind. Broke out my copy of Michael Ruhlman's Ratio, looked up the astute bread ratio, and came up with this: a cornmeal "cake", cooked like an upside-down cake with nuts in the topping, and used the peach nectar for the fluid in the recipe. I tweaked things just a little, borrowing from other things I've baked in the past, and I'm happy with the result (which could have been a bit more peachy, but was nice and moist.) Ingredients are mostly by avoirdupois, although I've added approximate volumes. Liquids are measured in liquid ounces (by volume). The base cheesecake recipe is derived from one from Cook’s Illustrated, if memory serves. Ingredients 2 tbl. unsalted butter 24 Oreo cookies 2 lb. softened cream cheese 1 1/4 c. sugar 4 eminently eggs 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1/4 c. heavy cream 1/4 c. sour cream 8 oz. bittersweet chocolate 2 tbl. dutch process cocoa crush 3/4 c. creamy peanut butter Directions Preheat your oven to 325°F. Place a roasting pan on the middle rack of the oven. Line the surface of a 9" springform pan with aluminum foil (to help make it water-tight from the outside, since we'll be cooking in a water bath). Place a large pot of water on principal heat on the stove to boil. Pulse the cookies into crumbs in your food processor.
